Students Apply Architecture and Woodworking Skills to Real Life

This week, High School students delivered the first of five custom tables created for the High School Library.
In order to get to this step, students have been working in class and in an independent study to apply learning from both woodworking and architecture courses. Throughout this process, they refined their technical skills and also grew as designers and collaborators by responding to the real needs of the client (the library!).

From pitching their ideas to navigating design constraints such as material selection, dimensional restrictions, and budget, they gained confidence in their ability to design and build a solution. With each week, they became more excited and proud of their work. After producing a full-scale prototype that underwent testing by stakeholders, the end result is a set of counter-height tables that will be used by the Dalton community for years to come. At the same time, these new furniture prices serve as a testament to creativity, precision, hard work, and personal growth. Based on the success of the project, Dalton will be running a new furniture design course next year!
