Art, Science and Climate Change: A Sixth Grade Exhibition to Raise Awareness and Promote Action

Dalton 6th graders have been studying climate change in visual art and science and working in both arenas to raise awareness about the greatest issue facing our planet.
The 11th floor at 89th Street and part of the 12th floor are given over to this immersive exhibition, which will be on display for several months.

In art, students researched endangered and at-risk animals in New York, discovering the degree to which they are threatened by climate change. Individually or in pairs, they built sculptures of their chosen animal. In keeping with the spirit of the project, these were made out of recycled and found materials.

In science, students studied the causes and consequences of climate change and researched potential solutions for several New York City neighborhoods. They then produced posters focused on those neighborhoods, proposing projects that would help protect those areas and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
