Haunted High-Rise Storytelling

Spooky storytelling and haunted tales filled House 27 during their publishing party. After planning and organizing their ideas on a story map, the second graders wrote their very own Halloween stories.
Writing the Haunted High-Rise stories provided the children with an opportunity to experience the writing process first-hand and to learn about important qualities of story writing. They learned that a story needed a clear beginning, middle and end. They also discussed the significance of developing a setting and characters. Each child added detail and description to his/her writing piece to create a vivid picture for the reader. Each child depicted a scene from his/her story in a diorama. All of the dioramas were put together to create a high-rise and displayed in the classroom. The children enjoyed reading their stories to the parents.
