Adam Lanphier Gr. 9 Lecture on Chinese Literacy, Literature and Confucianism
Middle and High School Mandarin teacher Mr. Adam Lanphier gave a lecture on Friday, December 11 to Grade 9 and their History teachers. Mr Lanphier's lecture aimed to clarify how classical Chinese fiction might help illustrate themes and events in China's history.
He spoke on the roles of literacy, literature, and Confucianism in the Chinese historical discourse. As a part of their world history curriculum, 9th grade students read excerpts from The Three Kingdoms and A Dream of a Red Mansion, Ming and Qing Dynasty novels, respectively.
