3 Dalton Comp Sci Students Qualify for National Linguistics Olympiad Competition

70 students on the Dalton Computer Science Team competed in the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO). Julia Martin '17, Clayton Hamilton '17, and Cal Lavicka '16, were among the 147 top students in the country, who qualified to take the invitational round. NACLO will invite top students in that round to join the American team to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad this year in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
The NACLO is a contest in which high-school students solve linguistic puzzles. In solving these puzzles, students learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. Professionals in linguistics, computational linguistics and language technologies use dozens of languages to create interesting problems that represent cutting edge issues in their fields. It is truly an opportunity for Dalton students to experience a taste of natural-language processing in the 21st century.
