MS Spanish Teacher Travels to Peru on a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship
Dr. Carmen Campos was one of only 15 teachers nationwide chosen for this special honor. During her month-long study/expedition, Dr. Campos explored the history, education and culture of Peru, with a special focus on its indigenous heritage.
She traveled throughout much of Peru's many micro-climates, which included cities such as: Arequipa, Cusco, and Puno in the Andean region; Tarapoto and Moyobamba in the rainforest region and Paracas and Chincha in the coastal/desert region. Throughout her time in Peru, Dr. Campos visited local schools, museums, caves and churches and did study tours of many ruins. She also participated in workshops on Peruvian cuisine and dance and took lessons in the Quechua language. The Fulbright faculty, including professors and local experts, provided extensive seminars to help provide insights regarding Peruvian culture and history. Throughout the year, Dr. Campos will share her experiences from the Fulbright with her Dalton colleagues and students as well as contribute cultural activities about Peru to the MS Spanish curriculum.
