Dalton Track and Field showcased its talents at the annual PSAA Championships meet in Astoria Park last Thursday.
Track Runs Its Way to Strong Showing at PSAAs By Michelle Hunnewell and Julia Jurist
On Thursday, May 4, Dalton Varsity Track and Field headed out to Astoria Park in Queens to compete in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) Championships meet. The team fared well, with the Boys team finishing in second and the Girls team finishing in third.
Both individual and group efforts led the team to triumph. For the boys, captain Jream Henderson ‘17 came in first in both the 400 and 800 meter races. Arjun Prasad ‘18 also finished first in the 110 meter hurdles.
The underclassmen were also instrumental in the meet. In the sprint medley relay, an event consisting of a 200 meter dash, two 100 meter runs, and a 400 meter sprint, a unit composed of sophomores Jamaal Spence, Malcolm Laws-Macdonald, Alex Buzali, and freshman Dale Dolan-Zalaznick finished first while another group featuring sophomores Suhul Kebede, Kyle Chan-Shue, Paul Bascobert, Ryan Raymundo came in second.
On the girls side, juniors Michelle Hunnewell, Julia Jurist, Noa Simon, and Lily Steinman combined efforts in the sprint medley relay to earn second place. Running long distance, Hadley Benjamin ‘19 finished third in the girls 3000 meter run.
In the field events, Zach Love ‘19 won first in the long jump and captain Dara Swan ‘17 triumphed with a first place win in the long jump and a second place finish in shot put.
The meet was a success for the team as it heads off to its upcoming Ivy Championship and NYSAIS Championship meets.
