Representing Dalton were nine members of the class of 2021 (Nadim Abboud, Zara Chapple, Julia Freitag, Leyla Jacoby, Alexander Levine, Avi Mehta, Hugo Roma-Wilson, Rebecca Solomon, and Juliana Yu) and three members of the class of 2022 (Theo Avedisian, Jake Berg, and Alejandro Breen).

 

In five rounds, Dalton racked up an impressive record of 14 wins and 6 losses, securing first place in the Big Apple division. 

 

The tournament’s final debate pitted Dalton against the Hackley School.  Before an audience of several hundred, Dalton’s team of Berg, Breen, and Yu argued for the proposition “A Constitutional Convention will do more good than harm.” 

 

Berg, Breen, and Yu triumphed, clinching first place in the tournament overall.  Dalton’s team of Avedisian, Chapple, and Mehta were also successful, placing 11th within the field of 88 teams. 

 

Dalton debaters also won several individual accolades:  among the 250+ debaters Jake Berg was recognized as 16th, Alejandro Breen as 12th, Zara Chapple as 15th, and Juliana Yu received the “Crystal Gavel” as the best speaker in the tournament. 

As an added plus, Coach Stewart was awarded by the League for his team's strong performance.
