GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER
By BO PEPONIS
A few weeks into the season, Girls Varsity Soccer currently sits at 2-2 in the league, highlighted by a dominant win against Trinity this past homecoming.
The team is looking to replace several key contributors from last year’s team—which won a NYSAIS Championship for the first time in school history. Luckily for Dalton, the team returns co-captain Rain Condie in addition to Leila Kamshad (‘19) and Kara Siegel (‘19), who have been playing on the varsity team since eighth grade.
Against Trinity, the Tigers controlled the pace of the game and did not allow Trinity many worthwhile chances at goal. Condie had a spectacular homecoming performance. In addition to homecoming falling on her eighteenth birthday, she scored three goals against Trinity: a left-foot volley into the box, a put-in rebound, and an incredible shot from just in front of midfield. On the team’s effort, Condie said, “We brought lots of energy to the game and the season looks promising. Our team is bolstered by our very strong back line and midfield and our main focus in the coming weeks is to get our forwards more chances to rack up goals.” The team returns its three defenders, Natalie Melas-Kyriazi (‘19), Elise Bousquette (‘18), and Ronit Kitei (‘18).

Dalton Varsity Football’s 2017-2018 season started off with a bang as the team took on the Harvey Cavaliers in a decisive 27-13 homecoming victory. On the offensive end, running back Emlyn Mileaf-Patel (‘19) rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Dylan Hale (‘20) threw for an additional 128 yards and two more touchdowns, connecting with tight end Brian Cromwell (‘19) and wide receiver and co-captain Jasper Taback (‘18).
Defensively, cornerback and co-captain Oliver Fisher (‘18) led the team with eight tackles and one tackle for a loss. Dalton successfully kept the Cavaliers to 33 passing yards.
With nine seniors graduating last year, the team has evolved but is no less competitive than it has been in previous years. The comradery of the players translates into their collective performance on the field, which was on full display in their win. As the players continue to bond and build their mental endurance in games, their sights are set on another dominant season.
