House 43 visited the Chinese Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to study the attributes of Chinese art around the year 1500. The ultimate goal is to arm the students with the art historical tools they’ll need to determine the origin of the artifacts they’ve been uncovering in their archaeological dig at Kashgar, an important trading center along the Silk Road during this period of Mongol rule. The students already expect to find a range of goods — local products as well as imports from European, Islamic, and East Asian centers.
