Community Life & Diversity Committee's Discussion on Executive Functioning and Self-Regulation Skills Featuring Dalton Parents
On January 30, 2018, the PA Community Life & Diversity Committee held a special talk on Executive Functioning and Self-Regulation Skills. Panelists included Dalton parents who shared their perspectives as professors, educators, professionals, and parents.
The panel discussion topics included: essential skills children need to successfully transition from high school to college, development of executive functioning, benefits of traditional and rigid teaching approaches, use of concrete work duties to foster independence, whether or not electronics are helpful in supporting development organizational skills, and ways that parents help teens with anxiety to build coping skills and seek help.

CL&D: Community Life & Diversity is a PA committee comprised of parent co-chairs and steering committee members. The goal of the committee is to create relevant and current programming for Dalton parents, with a focus on community building, equitable learning, celebrating diversity, and enhancing inclusion. Events hosted by the PA CL&D committee in the 2017-18 so far include: a moderated evening discussion on Respectful Conversations, a morning talk on Socialization of Boys and in Girls in our Society, by thought leader Dr. Jackson Katz, and the recent panel on Executive Functioning and Self Regulation Skills.
