HS Girls Computer Science Students Organize Bit by Bit Conference
Girls from the Dalton CS Department held the 3rd annual conference dedicated to high school girls interested in applied technology and computer science.
Bit by Bit organizers believe that by gathering successful women with experiences to share, they can ensure that the female coders, entrepreneurs, and leaders of the future are prepared in an industry in which women are underrepresented.
Keynote speakers were Camille Fournier (former CTO of Rent the Runway and current managing director at Two Sigma) and Sylvia Acevedo (CEO of the Girls Scouts and former engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory).
Attendees posed questions to panelists representing art, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, and computer science in colleges. They attended a luncheon to learn about future computer science opportunities and mentoring others.
Dalton alums Sophia Edelstein '13 and Sarah Meyohas '09 were speakers on the entrepreneur and art panels, respectively. Alum Alison Mishkin '07 provided organizational mentorship.
