HS Computer Science Teacher Charlie Forster Stewart's HS Web Engineering class developed a puzzle hunt as part of an assignment. Dr. Asher Knuth Perl (a fictional Dalton teacher who anagrams to "Helen Parkhurst"), narrated participants through the puzzles and offered clues to their solutions. The competition submissions grew exponentially as participants tried to solve the brain teasers.
A Final Message from Dr. Perl:
Dear Students,
Thanks to the many of you who tried our puzzles this week! The puzzles were designed and built as part of the Web Engineering course, and were written by: Abby Cohen, Anna Wagman, Ava Mohajer, Ashley Schefler, Olivia Munell, Diana Maria Gilly, Corey Stern, Emlyn Mileaf-Patel, Kara Siegel, Libby Min, Liza Katz, Ryan Raymundo, Ryo Shimada, Steven Eisner, and Will Barkoff.
The engineering students used physical elements from the 89th Street building; including the Centennial posters located in the hallways, as well as digital components to create the puzzles. A new puzzle was released each day up until winter break. When this puzzle project launched, 100 students attempted puzzles, and 50 completed at least one. Periodically, Dr. Perl updated the results and recorded the top spot achiever.
