Days for Girls Shares Its Story with High School Students
Over the last 10 years, Days for Girls has provided female hygiene kits and health education to more than 1.5 million women and girls in 140 countries around the world.
Students in the high school elective Thinking Globally, Acting Locally, assembled menstrual hygiene kits as part of a class visit by Days for Girls, a grassroots, volunteer organization that promotes, creates, and distributes long-lasting, washable and sustainable menstrual health solutions to women and girls who would otherwise miss school or work during their monthly periods.
During their visit, Dalton parent Hilary Steinman reminded students “that having the supplies you need every month for menstrual hygiene is a basic human right that everyone deserves.” Jill Miller, director of the Days for Girls NYC Chapter, said, “with these kits, we are also working to shatter taboos and the stigma around menstruation. Girls should never have to feel shame or embarrassment when they get their periods. It’s amazing how one simple kit can change a girl’s life.”
Most recently, Days for Girls partnered with the UNHCR to make and deliver 50,000 kits to be distributed to women and girls in refugee camps in Lebanon, Somalia, South Sudan, and Afghanistan on October 11, the International Day of the Girl.
