Ten MS students competed at the Manhattan chapter of Mathcounts. These students were selected after excelling at the Mathcounts school round and AMC 8 competitions.
The Manhattan chapter included approximately 350 students representing 47 schools in Manhattan, including Trinity, Hunter, Lab School, Anderson, Brearley, etc. Of the 48 teams, our team came in fourth place. Lucas Chen ’24 came in fourth individually and Jonathan Henkin ’25 was 17th. The top 17 students participated in an additional countdown round, and Lucas Chen ’24 came in third place. The group brought back trophies and earned a spot in the state level in Troy, NY on March 7. Only 5 of the 48 teams continue to this level. The official team members were Lucas Chen ’24, Julia Miyasaka ’24, Ashwin Ranjan ’24 and Narayan Topalli ’24. Additional students who participated individually were Sonia Appen ’24, Jonathan Henkin ’25, Jasper Karlson ’24, Haeon Lee ’24, Arav Mehta ’25, and Daniel Wagman ’25.
Thank you to Inanna Donnelley, 7th grade Math teacher/House Advisor who accompanied the team with High School Mathematics teacher Lisa Borenstein.
