Dalton’s Future Problem Solvers Take Top Awards and Advance to Internationals

The hard work of Dalton students in the Future Problem Solvers club—in a rigorous after school program focused upon usage and strengthening of critical and creative thinking skills—is paying off!

Dalton competitors earned some exciting outcomes and awards based on their Global Issues Problem Solving action plans on the topic Living in Poverty during the New York State Bowl.

Students who participated in the club applied the six-step problem-solving method to a future scenario navigating challenges related to living in poverty and wrote a global issues problem-solvers action plan. Judges evaluated and scored their written work after they competed in the state bowl.

Future Problem Solvers follow a six-step approach to problem-solving:
  1. Identify Challenges Related to the Topic or Future Scene
  2. Select an Underlying Problem
  3. Produce Solution Ideas to Address the Underlying Problem
  4. Generate and Select Criteria to Evaluate Solution Ideas
  5. Evaluate Solution Ideas to Determine the Better Action Plan
  6. Develop an Action Plan
While the judges’ invitation to advance to Internationals is extended to our highest placing students, we have many club members who will continue to participate in applying the six-step problem-solving process as they develop innovative solutions for the International Conference topic of Terraforming.
