HS House Planning Committee Makes Progress

Over the summer, the High School House Planning Committee was charged with developing House programming to ensure that House was a place in which students could decompress, enjoy activities and/or traditions, engage in open and honest discussions, and work together in support of our institutional commitment to anti-racism making.
The House Planning Committee started by drafting a House Advisor Guide that included a mission statement to clarify the purpose of House and sections that outlined student feedback, House Advisor responsibilities, and a series of House goals.

Committee members also developed a House program for the 8-day orientation period and offered suggestions about how to structure House time during a typical school week. During orientation, Houses devoted time to establishing community norms, preparing for Dr. Chris Emdin’s assembly presentation, and playing interactive games. Houses also began the process of drafting an anti-racist House statement to provide the groundwork for many genuine discussions about the issues of racism in our school, city, country, and world and how we play a part in striving for a world of justice and equity.
