The Dalton Debate team went “on the road” again last weekend, participating in both the Yale University Invitational and the Bellaire Forensic Tournament.
In Bellaire’s Novice Division, the Class of 2024 was ably represented by Jodany Fanord ’24, Hattie Saal ’24, Armaan Gill ’24, Etien Balanzá ’24, Jools Gray ’24, Leila Clinton ’24, Tali Kantor Lieber ’24, Annika Jha ’24, Jai Kapoor ’24, Rex Popick ’24, Julia Miyasaka ’24, and Julia Hammerman ’24.
Sophomores Leela Mukherjee-Sze ’23 and Leo Yu ’23 competed in the tournament’s Champion level.
Overall, Dalton prevailed in 15 preliminary rounds.
Meanwhile, at Yale, six Daltonians debated at the JV level: Jasper Karlson ’24, Zach Berg ’24, Annabelle Eng ’23, Lucas Chen ’24, Mirabelle Zhang ’24, and Anya Levin ’24. Jasper and Zach progressed to the second elimination round; Anya was recognized as Best Speaker among 326 JV debaters.
Senior co-captains Rebecca Solomon ’21 and JJ Yu ’21 competed in Yale’s Varsity division, reaching the first elimination round, with Rebecca capturing 10th speaker and JJ 13th speaker in a field of 580 Varsity debaters.
