Amateur Astronomers Association of New York Explores the Universe with 8th Graders

Dalton 8th graders began their year in Science by studying the Universe and learning that most of what we know about the Universe, we know by studying light.
Members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York met virtually with our eighth grade science classes to talk about the Universe on Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24. The visitors, including Dalton parent John Bills, explained how they became interested in studying the universe, and how they are able to capture images of space using astrophotography. The speakers, who had a wide range of backgrounds, shared how they decided to join the organization and invited our students to join, as well.

The speakers, who awed the students with their photos, taught students about celestial bodies and answered their questions related to past class studies. In one class, the students even played a game called, “Comet or Not.”
