Seventh Graders Ask: How Healthy Is The Air You’re Breathing?

Seventh graders are starting the year off strong and developing foundational scientific literacy skills to find reliable sources and information by answering questions that arise from the observation of real-world data and news!
Combining their science knowledge, scientific literacy skills, and communication skills, students are creating critical problem-solving techniques to think about science applications in the real world.

Certain parts of our respiratory system can be damaged due to air pollution. Are you finding yourself asking questions such as, “Why are there disparities when comparing air quality in different cities? And “How does air pollution affect our bodies?.” If so, you can look up real-time air quality monitors around the world with The Purple Air website and compare the air quality of your area to another city of your choice.

Fun Fact: A monitor is at 89th Street outside the language lab on the 5th floor. The monitor is used for some 9th grade research projects and this 7th grade science Air Quality project. As this is a real-time measurement of air quality please note numbers can fluctuate upon each visit to the website.
