Dalton Dance Faculty André Zachery Nominated for 2021 Bessie Award!

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, also known as The Bessies, are New York City’s premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field. André Zachery (Dalton MS/HS dance teacher) has been nominated for Outstanding Breakout Choreographer.
This award recognizes an artist who has made an exceptional leap in visibility and impact in their career this past season. “Dance artists and their collaborators have continued to dream and build during the pandemic. They have called upon each of us to reimagine and commit our collective movement toward equity, justice, and healing," said Heather Robles, Bessies Executive Director (and former Dalton Greek Festival choreographer!)

André's latest work, "Salt" was presented in Drexciya Redux: An Afrofuturist Cabaret, as part of the "Altered-Worlds: Black Utopia and the Age of Acceleration" festival at Live Arts New York. The cabaret also featured immersive digital projection programmed and designed by Andre' with technical installation support from 3LD Art & Technology Center.

André's Renegade Performance Group will present "Respiration" at the Weeksville Heritage Center on Saturday, October 9th at 4:00 PM with guest musical collaborators DJ Sabine Blaizin (Oyasound), musician Okai Fleurimont, and grammy-award winning singer/song-writer Kendra Foster. Choreographed in response to the life-altering global pandemic of a virus that can literally take one's breath away, this site-specific piece creates the space to breathe again by harnessing the gathering power of community.
