Kindergarten Spanish Classes Learn About the Day of the Dead

This fall, Kindergarten students are learning about the Day of the Dead in their First Program Spanish classes.
The students read a picture book called Mi Familia Calaca (My Skeleton Family), in which they were introduced to family member vocabulary while also being exposed to the imagery and playfulness of the calacas.

In addition, Dance/Theater Specialist Justin Greer is set to visit the Kindergarten Spanish classes and read "Chumba la Cachumba" while teaching the students some fun dance steps!

After exploring the holiday in class, students will visit an ofrenda in the FP living room with Spanish teacher Cynthia Yánez. Then, they will participate in a Day of the Dead-themed scavenger hunt in which they will be encouraged to find particular objects on the ofrenda, such as cempasúchil/marigolds, calaveras de azucar/sugar skulls, and pan de muertos/bread of the dead.
