Musicology Professor and Author Nate Sloan '04 Returns to Dalton for HS Assembly

Nate Sloan '04, Assistant Professor of Musicology at the University of Southern California, host of the podcast Switched on Pop, and co-author of the book Switched On Pop: How Popular Music Works and Why It Matters returned to Dalton to host this week’s HS Assembly in the Martin Theater.
Nate spoke about his origins in studying popular music, why pop music is so controversial in society, and what we can learn about our culture when we listen deeply to pop.

His popular podcast, co-hosted with songwriter Charlie Harding, has been cited by Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and Entertainment Weekly as a top music podcast. In addition, Nate provides music analysis for The Economist, NPR, The Atlantic, The Boston Globe, and CBC Radio's "Day 6." 

After graduating from Dalton in 2004, Nate received his undergraduate degree at Brown University before earning a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
