Latin Classes Study "Pompei in Color" Exhibit at ISAW
Middle and High School Latin Class students recently visited the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World's (ISAW) "Pompeii in Color" exhibit.
Fifth Grade Intro to Latin students, 7th and 8th Grade Intro to Latin/Latin I students, and High School Latin II students studied the Institute's ancient Roman frescoes currently on loan from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Students learned about the fresco-making process and discussed a range of subjects including mythology, writing tools, and the landscapes that decorated these 2,000-year-old homes. In addition, they examined artwork excavated from the ash and pumice of Vesuvius' catastrophic eruption, which is now beautifully restored and on display in the museum.
