HS Microeconomics Students Target Sustainability in Their Study of Emerging Markets
Exploring a range of climate venture markets, High School History Teacher Mila Tewell’s Microeconomics students applied their economic tools of analysis in a semester-long project last fall.
Working in teams, students created instructional videos discussing the negative externalities that traditional markets produce and the positive economics behind industries emerging in response. In addition, they worked closely with their peers and consulted with faculty experts, including HS Science Teacher David Lindo on wind technology, Architecture Teacher Dustin Atlas on urban transportation planning, Visual Arts Teacher Ilana Breitman on clothing production, HS Math Teacher David Harvey on consumer surveys, and HS History Teacher Kevin Slick and HS Science Teacher Joaquin Ramsey on the science and history of food production and consumption.
By incorporating newly learned economic terminology and concepts, these videos offer well-researched insights into markets ranging from Wind Power to Fast vs. Sustainable Fashion, the Dairy Market, Plant-based Nutrition, and Urban Bike Sharing.
