Kindergarten Classes Visit Pinkney Exhibit at Katonah Museum of Art
Kindergarten Coleman and Cox Houses visited the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, New York, on January 11 to see the Jerry Pinkney exhibit.
The museum docents toured the Kindergarteners through the museum to explore Pinkney's original sketches and artwork, see other Pinkney-inspired books and artwork, and make some art of their own.
An award-winning African-American children's book illustrator and writer, Pinkney is known as a master watercolorist who used his work to highlight Black history and culture.
In light of the upcoming MLK Day, the classes learned about his creative process and preparation and enjoyed seeing the sketches and artwork Pinkney used for his award-winning book, A Place to Land: Martin Luther King Jr., and the Speech That Inspired a Nation.
