Middle School Percussion Ensemble Explores Intersection of Robotics and Music with Guest Artist Casey Anderson
Dalton Music Department hosted musician and sound artist Casey Anderson, a faculty member at ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles.
Casey worked with 7th and 8th Grade percussion ensemble students building simple toothbrush robots using toothbrushes, small motors, batteries, and conductive tape. Students experimented with robot design and discussed circuits with the goal of making robots that could vibrate on various percussion instruments such as cymbals, timpani, and various drums.
Story submitted by Music Department Co-Chair and Middle/High School Percussion Teacher Dr. Bill Solomon.
