Gotitas del Saber Podcast Turns One and Takes Inspiration from Arturo Schomberg for Its Second Year!

¡Feliz Cumpleaños Gotitas del Saber Podcast! On October 17, the Gotitas del Saber podcast turned one! Aptly named “Drops of Knowledge” in Spanish, the Gotitas del Saber podcast promotes and enriches Hispanic and LatinX culture and language learning in the First Program. World Languages Teacher Nivia Marrero created this podcast in collaboration with the Spanish Team and Educational Technologist Daniel Cruz.

Each week, two student hosts explore the history, contributions, and impact of Latinx individuals around the world through the podcast. The series amplifies young voices, educating students on curricular topics ranging from artists, athletes, and activists to the origins of tomatoes, potatoes, and corn. Through interviews with guest speakers and presentations by both students and Houses, Gotitas del Saber invites the whole First Program community to celebrate the positive influence of Latinx communities.

A special “Gotitas Corner” in the FP Library was created to celebrate the podcast’s inaugural year. The display space featured information from the podcast, as well as an iPad and headphones for students to listen to old and new episodes.

During the first year, the podcast heavily featured the life and work of Puerto Rican Librarian Pura Belpré. For its second year, the podcast will take inspiration from the legacy of Arturo Schomberg, the Founder of The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. By integrating Spanish vocabulary and culture, the podcast empowers students to apply classroom learning to the wider world, expanding their knowledge and community awareness.

Gotitas del Saber airs every Tuesday at 8:15 AM at First Program, serving as a valuable interdisciplinary resource for our school community's language learning and cultural understanding.
