9th Graders Begin Their History Research Project - "The Way They Lived Then"
9th Grade students began work on their history research project entitled “The Way They Lived Then.” Based on a piece of material culture on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art they set out to discover details about the lives of ancient, medieval, or early modern peoples. Students examine their object to conduct a “visual analysis" in the form of a preliminary sketch.
Children's book Author and Illustrator David Macaulay, Dalton’s Original Mind Scholar in 2009-2010, inspired this project, suggesting to teachers that sketching should be incorporated into students' research.
