Last weekend, the High School debate team added on to their streak with another first-place finish. Competing at the NYPDL February tournament at Friends Seminary, Annika Maduraperuma ‘26 and Sam Worthington ‘26 took first place after a climactic final debate against Horace Mann. Emmalyn Zuzunaga ‘26 and Olivia Meyer ‘26 also made it to the semifinal, while Arav Mehta ‘25 and Gavin Aurelus ‘25 advanced to the octafinal. Meanwhile, in the novice division, Maddie Fine ‘27 and Iris Mou ‘27 made it to the final round. Emmalyn was also recognized individually as the 7th speaker overall.

The preceding weekend, competing at the Columbia University Invitational tournament, Shreya Saravanan ‘25, Spencer Chaisanguanthum ‘27, Anysa Bickici ‘25, and Arav Mehta ‘25 advanced into the varsity elimination bracket debating whether to amend federal law to hold social media platforms liable for user content.
