History Teacher Speaks About Jewish Women & Antisemitism
On Wednesday, February 21, Dr. Shira Kohn from the High School History Department offered a Zoom lecture, “Fun, But Free? Jewish Sororities and Acculturation,” for the University of Pennsylvania's Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies on the topic of Jewish sororities and their encounters with American antisemitism on college campuses and beyond in the 20th century.
The lecture was part of a series the Center is hosting called “Jews and the University: Antisemitism, Admissions, Academic Freedom.” Her talk, which can be found here, was based on her scholarship about Jewish sororities as sites of identity formation and advocacy for generations of Jewish women in the United States.
