Led by Head Coach and Women International Master (WIM) Beatriz Marinello, Dalton’s coaching staff featured a world-class lineup of Grandmaster Mac Molner, FIDE Master Lenny Kadishev, National Master Jerald Times and Chess Expert Alexander Kure.
Dalton students had celebrity chess parent interactions (Ashton Kutcher: “Is the Dalton team enjoying the tournament?”), highs (“I won! Was he really 500 rating points higher than me?”), and learning moments (“I did not do very well in this tournament but I had a lot of growth and figured out a bunch of chess lines I never knew before”).

The future looks promising with both K-1 teams securing second place. Like their older teammates, our Kindergarteners and 1st Graders worked diligently and performed admirably.
Dalton parents shared their thoughts following this exciting weekend of chess:
"Dalton brings the largest team to the largest elementary school tournament and we all have a blast. It’s a place where lasting memories are made. The kids compete, learn from their mistakes, and persevere over three hard-fought days. Coach Beatriz and her team tirelessly review all games and add preparation strategies ahead of each round. Parents bond, swap Dalton experiences, and commiserate over the ups and downs.”
“The Dalton Chess program is a top training platform for kids from K to High School. Beatriz and team have developed a community in which children learn, get better, compete, and very often, win. It teaches children chess, but also amazing life skills such as teamwork, competitiveness and focus. I have seen my son go from a kid who could not sit still in his K class to playing 1.5 hour games in 1st Grade. But more than all that, it has also given the kids and their parents, an amazing community. The kids play, travel, learn and grow together and I couldn’t ask for a better experience for his intellectual and social development.” Go Tigers!
