This week, families from the Dalton community participated in a meaningful community service event at the Carter Burden Center in NYC, an organization dedicated to supporting and empowering older adults through essential services, meals, and community engagement programs.
The event brought together children ranging from 4th to 9th grade, along with their parents, for a day of service. We began with a guided tour of the facility, where everyone learned about the Center’s mission. Following this, each participant was assigned a role to help prepare snack bags and serve lunch to about 150 older adults.
The students and parents were fully engaged and committed throughout the day, embodying the spirit of service and community support. At the end of the event, several families shared their appreciation for the PA’s efforts in organizing such a meaningful opportunity. All agreed how rewarding it was to spend time giving back and expressed hopes for similar future initiatives. This experience reinforced the importance of providing opportunities to connect and serve, fostering both compassion and a sense of responsibility in our children.
