High School Lunar New Year Assembly Celebrates Music, Culture, and Fun
This year’s High School Lunar New Year Assembly was a lively celebration of culture, music, and performance, organized by the Mandarin Department and led by our senior Mandarin students as MCs: Liam Gaspar ’26, Teddy Liu ’26, Alex Wing ’26, and Zeran Li ’26.
The assembly began with a beautiful piano and vocal performance by the senior Mandarin students, who performed The Moon Represents My Heart, a timeless classical Chinese song from the 1970s. Their heartfelt rendition set a warm and celebratory tone for the event.
Next, the 9th grade Mandarin students showcased their musical talents with instruments and vocals in A Little Bit Sweet, a lively Chinese pop song. Their energy and coordination highlighted both their Mandarin and musical skills, demonstrating their talent and dedication.
To celebrate the Year of the Horse, the 11th grade Mandarin students performed Cowboy On The Run, a popular Chinese pop song by Taiwanese artist Jay Chou. Their dynamic cowboy-style dance brought energy and excitement to the assembly.
Following the student performances, Master Yang, an 81-year-old Shanghai-born juggler with decades of experience, took the stage. His performance combined humor, skill, and audience interaction. Over 30 minutes, Master Yang’s juggling captivated the audience with precise tricks, playful antics, and whimsical showmanship, creating unforgettable moments of laughter and wonder.
The assembly ended on a high note, full of excitement and celebration. Thanks to everyone who participated, and the Mandarin Department wishes the entire school community a very Happy Year of the Horse!
