First Program Chorus Performs "Music from Around the World"
This First Program Chorus concert featured our third grade musicians, who provided instrumental accompaniment on the violin, recorder, orff instruments and percussion. The program "Music from Around the World” included pieces from South Africa, Namibia, Jordan, Canada, and Germany. The children learned how to make a clicking noise with their tongues for rhythm when they sang in the South African language of Zulu and the Namibian language of Khoekhoegowab.
Our new music teacher, Pamela Lowry, conducted the Namibian piece, which was accompanied by lovely, lyrical hand movements.
The tradition of ending the evening with Tue Tue (Ghana) challenged the young musicians with complicated rhythms and, once again, brought down the house.
