Dalton First Program Chess Team Dominates City Chess Championships
On Saturday January 30th, The Dalton Chess Team excelled in all primary divisions of the New York City Chess Championships. Our K-1 team placed first, with a one and a half point lead ahead of the second place team. Our Primary K-3 Varsity (Open) team also placed a clear first and Our Primary (K-3) Novice team placed third. A record 31 Dalton students attended the city championships. We congratulate them on their hard work and are proud of their success.
Our young Tigers were amazing at the City Chess Championships. We came in clear first in two sections, and a very respectable third place in the third. Our K-1 team demolished the competition with sixteen points. The second place team was a point and a half behind, which at these events is a huge gap.
The Dalton Primary Varsity (Open) team also came in with a clear first, and our Primary Novice team placed third, giving us a dominating overall performance for the primary sections.
The children worked very hard for this (and had fun doing it), coming in for three four-hour sessions on the Saturdays leading up to this big event, as well as pretty rigorous sessions after school. We had a record thirty-one children show up for the games, necessitating an additional analyst to help our students in going over their games between rounds.
