Raffles Administrators Learn About Leadership From Dalton Students

Jim Zulakis, Communications Director
As another part of the DGI (Dalton Global Initiatives) program, Five Administrators from the Raffles School in Singapore visited Dalton on Wednesday, October 13th, to learn about Dalton's excellent House, Peer Leadership and Peer Tutors programs.
The group enjoyed breakfast with Lisa Waller, High School Director, followed by a conversation with Kathleen McNary, Assistant High School Director for Student Activities, and several peer leaders. They visited a few House meetings and observed the High School Peer Leadership class. A Peer Tutors meeting with Lisa Stiffler, Assistant Director of High School (Curriculum) - College Counseling Office, ended their morning visits.

At lunch with Jim Best, Associate Head of School; John Neiers,
Director of New Lab for Teaching and Learning (NLTL); and Antonio Lee, Director of DGI, the group noticed and asked if all Dalton students were as direct and comfortably communicative as those they had interviewed and observed in classes. Among other questions, they also asked about Dalton's House configuration and questioned the practicality of intitating a house structure at Raffles, which is much larger. The Dalton group suggested that as long as Houses are made up of 20 students, shared by two house advisors, and if administrators also serve as advisors, Raffles could succeed in creating a larger house program. Our visitors were grateful for the warm hospitality extended to them by the Dalton students, teachers and administrators. Fortified by Dalton's example, they started their long journey back to Singapore, energized with a new mission and focus to create programs to promote leadership skills for their students.
