Pear Study - Middle School Art
Please visit the 89th Street lobby to enjoy a display of work by the 8th grade students of Carol Bowen and Ellen Stavitsky.
The pear pastels, rendered in oil pastel and chalk pastel, are studies in the way light falls on simple forms and casts shadows.
Using light and dark gradations of color, students created the illusion of volume.
Some students used their pear studies as the basis for a mosaic.
The attached video demonstrates the relationship between the drawings and the mosaics.
