4th and 5th grade dance students and their teachers revealed their dance processes and creations in open classes in late December.
Instructors Joanna Brotman, Blake Pearson and Molly Poerstel, conducted three open classes for parents and faculty. The included group of three videos (see Attached Media) were shot during the classes which took place near or at the end of the students' first trimester. Co-Instructors Blake Pearson and Molly Poerstel introduced Hand Jive and the Hustle among other teaching techniques and invited parents to participate. Reflecting on the 4th Grade study of immigration, Joanna Brotman's classes created dances which illustrated the emotion and experience of immigrants as they passed through Ellis Island. After they performed their dances, Ms. Brotman's students articulated their experience from the process of making their dances to the appreciative audience of parents.
