Viking Skyping - A Glimpse of Historic York, England
House 37 has been studying the Vikings in social studies. The students have been very interested in what it was like to be a Viking warrior, and we had the opportunity to Skype with an educator dressed in full Viking garb from the Jorvik Viking Center in York, England in order to answer some of our questions and learn more about Viking life!
The third grade curriculum is designed to provide a conceptual framework for observing aspects of the city’s history and for understanding the concept of culture in greater depth. Native American Indian Studies and the Age of Exploration in this case are investigated, in conjunction with an Archaeology unit developed by Dalton’s Archaeologist-in-Residence, where children participate in an excavation of a related site, set up in the First Program’s backyard.
