Workers swarmed like busy bees and scaffolding went up almost the second after the last First Progam student left for summer vacation. Their goal was freshen the facade and seal it from leaks and update the East Lobby. "It had been decades since the last facade maintenance and after discovering leaks during recent major renovations, and we could not longer put this off," said Ned Pinger, Chief Administrative Officer. He and members of the Board Building Committee deemed it was time for a good polish.
When asked, Ned described the expansiveness of the job in detail, "The crews re-pointed the facades, replaced bricks where needed, reconditioned the cornices; added new marble where necessary and resealed all joints. The entire facade was cleaned and the wood trim was stripped and painted. The wrought iron metal work at the window level was stripped down to bare metal, re-welded and returned to brand new condition. In addition, the crews stripped all of the paint from the back of the building from the first three stories. They took the paint off of the limestone from the front facades and stairs going up to building 53. The East Lobby was updated with new lighting, flooring wall surfaces, paint, trim and a communications display screen.
Another summer of improvements, finished before the start of school, which added to the shine and spirit of Dalton's First Program.
