Third Grade students have been learning about pendulums in science class. Mr. Germakian, affectionately known as Mr. G., is pictured here holding the "bob" of the pendulum to his nose. We asked students the following:
If Mr. G. releases the metal bob from the height of his nose, will it swing back and hit him in the nose? Class Prediction: it will lose energy and not make it back as high. Like a runner going up hill, it will lose energy when it goes up. Watch the video for the result.
In the following science class, the students created their own Fair Test. A fair test occurs when you change only one factor (variable) and keep all other conditions the same. One group tested a variety of different string to determine if that would affect the number of swings a pendulum makes in a specific period of time.
