The students of House 25 performed a creation story through the eyes of the Apache people. They worked alongside Nancy Silber (Music) and Anne Lockwood (Art) as a collabortive effort to "create," the experience as a whole.
House 25 studied and researched the culture of the First Americans. They traveled to various locations throughout New York to further their knowledge about Native Americans and their way of life. As a House, they separated North America into regions and studied the people that resided in each part of the continent. An incredibly important aspect of the Native American culture is their creation stories. "How things came to be," was a phrase that was used during this portion of their unit study. The students immersed themselves in these "creation stories," and made connections to each region that the specific tribes/clans lived. This study was incredibly rich, and full of valuable lessons about oral tradition and how these stories are still important to each tribe and have lasted hundreds of years.
