Penny Harvest - Common Sense Roundtable

Mary Smeltzer
First Program did an amazing job collecting pennies during the Penny Harvest season. We have $2,000 to donate to the charity or charities of our choice. For many years House 37 has participated in the Common Cents Roundtable. House 37 carefully studied the “Wheel of Caring” to determine causes and organizations that are meaningful to the students at the First Program. House 37 students came up with an extensive list including, children, environment, water, medical care, soldiers, food and homes. Each student wrote a persuasive essay for his or her charity and then as a House we voted on our favorite charities.
House 37 students decided to definitely give $500 to Mercy Ships and Water Keeper Alliance. During House 91 the students from House 37 presented information on the following charities: Mercy Ships and The Water Keeper Alliance, and then presented Charity Water, The Tiny Miracles Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. In the coming weeks when the students visit each classroom, they will give a brief description of the charities as a reminder and then poll the class. Now it is up to the students of First Program to vote.
