Kyle Abraham, an accomplished dancer and choreographer, performed with a group of his dancers at the high school assembly on Wednesday April 9, 2014. Abraham showcased select pieces from some of his works. He also invited students in the audience on stage to participate in a few improvisational exercises with the dancers. At the end of the assembly, Mr. Abraham took questions from the audience about his journey, choreographic approach and current work.
Mr. Abraham began his dance training at the Civic Light Opera Academy and the Creative and Performing Arts High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He then went on to receive a BFA from SUNY Purchase and an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
In 2012, Abraham was named the 2012 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award recipient and 2012 USA Ford Fellow. In November, he was named the newly appointed New York Live Arts Resident Commissioned Artist for 2012-2014. Just one month later, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater premiered Abraham's newest work, Another Night at New York City's City Center to rave reviews.
