High School Service In South Africa with Artworks for Youth

The Dalton School collaborated with Artworks for Youth and Envoys (a global education travel company), for a three week service learning course to learn the historical processes that have shaped contemporary South Africa. They delved into the history of apartheid, examining both the international actions against the policies as well as how the system created economic imbalances within modern South Africa.
Through Dalton’s connection with Artworks for Youth, Dalton students experienced the challenges and rewards of teaching and creating art in conjunction with their global peers.

They visited notable sites surrounding Port Elizabeth, including Addo Elephant Park, the Red Location Museum, King’s Beach Flea Market, and Algoa Bay. Including a trip to the Grahamstown National Art Festival, experiencing the full beauty and diversity of South African culture.

During the final days of the program, students created 'action plans' for sharing their experiences which will occur this fall.

We were fortunate enough in working with Artworks for Youth in Port Elizabeth and Envoys to create such a robust experience for students and the greater Dalton community.
