Alumnus Matt Broach '01 Speaks About Art as Ethical Practice
High School Arts Chair, Ellen Stavitsky welcomed artist, multi-media designer and Brooklyn College associate professor, Matt Broach to speak to the High School about his artistic journey, centered on the role of art as ethical practice in his artwork.
Reacting to the oppositional art movements of the past, such as Abstract Expressionism and the Avant-Garde, Matt shared his work and the work of other influential ethicists, through a series of slides and video. He explain his belief that it is becoming important that artists are instrumental in promoting positive change, rather than reacting to, or rejecting ideas that are disagreable.
Aside from producing his original fine art, Matt also creates multi-media video stage presentations for popular musicians such as Bruno Mars and Paramore.
