Middle School Debate Team Wins Three Trophies at Hunter
The Dalton Middle School Debate Team picked up multiple trophies on Saturday, December 13 at Hunter College High School. The gavel for best speaker went to Bryson Wiese '19 who was joined by Sehan Choi '19 to make up the first place team.
Dalton's team is part of the "Gotham Debate League" that works to select engaging and relevant topics for students from both public and independent schools. The students debated four topics in a total of five rounds (they debated one topic twice). Topics ranged widely from suspending MTA fare increases to restoring ex-felons' voting rights.
Dalton earned two trophies for total team wins and total percentage of team wins, making it undebatable that the Dalton team collectively won the most awards at the tournament. Team advisors Amanda Schollenberger, Dee Mingey and Sarah Reilly commended the students for doing an outstanding job.
