Administrators and Trustees Welcome the NYSAIS Visiting Committee

The High School Goldman Library was abuzz with activity late Sunday afternoon as Dalton Self-Study organizers, administrators and trustees met the NYSAIS Accreditation Visiting Committee to get acquainted in preparation for the committee’s 4-day visit toward Dalton's 10-year accreditation.
Head of School Ellen C. Stein welcomed members of the visiting team, thanked the planning committee and thank the Visiting Committee in advance for their hard work and for spending time away from their busy school schedules to help Dalton. She also remarked on travel distance; one member comes from Seattle and another from as far as Jordan.

The Visiting team will delve into Dalton school culture and conduct interviews and observations for the next few days. They will finish their onsite work on Wednesday afternoon with a parting address to the Faculty and Staff from Visiting Committee Chair William Morris, Headmaster of Friends Academy.

In his concluding address to the gathering, shortly before the committee marched off to a Sunday evening of planning and preparation; Mr. Morris commended Dalton for its diligent and extensive labor to produce the Self-Study document. In particular, he focused on the last few sentences containing the word “courageous” and noted that “courage” so closely relates to Dalton’s motto, to “Go Forth Unafraid.” He concluded by saying that the words reminded him of a quote by Maya Angelou, in which she said, “I am convinced that courage is the most important of all the virtues. Because without courage, you cannot practice any other virtue consistently.”
