6th Grade Writer Contest Winner and Member of SemiFinalists for SocialQs App
6th-grade student, Juliana Yu was honored as a 2014-15 winner of The Empire State Center for the Book Letters About Literature contest. She won in the grades 4-6 category. Juliana will be honored at the New York State Writers Hall of Fame Induction Gala in June, at the Princeton Club of New York.
Juliana won one of four creative writing first prizes awarded in the 2014 Torrance Legacy Awards. This year, she was also named kid reporter for Scholastic Kids and according to her House Advisor, Laura Aziz, "She has a passion for language and for expressing herself in writing!"
Equally exciting, Juliana's robotics team (the Electric Eagles), presented an app they named SocialQs that helps kids with Asperger’s Syndrome learn social cues. While presenting their idea to the public and a panel of professionals at the FIRST World Championships in St.Louis, the team was recognized as a SemiFinalist and the students -- Jordan Fox '21, Lana Wagner '21 and Nadim Abboud '21 and Juliana Wu '21 --were all sworn in as the first ever Innovation Ambassadors for the Global Innovation Award, sponsored by X-Prize.
